Visitor Programs

The Sydney Mathematical Research Institute offers vibrant visitor programs supporting international collaboration, domestic research visits, and Ukrainian scholars seeking a safe haven. These programs provide funding, dedicated research time, academic hosting, and opportunities for scientific exchange, enabling mathematicians to connect, share ideas, and advance research within a welcoming Australian environment.

International Visitor Program (IVP)

The institute’s visitor program funds more than 50 visiting researchers each year to collaborate with mathematicians all over Australia. Our institute creates a vibrant and creative environment for Sydney based visitors.

This visitor program serves to connect mathematicians from diverse corners of the world to engage in meaningful discussion, exchange knowledge and ideas, and establish lasting connections with researchers in Australia.

The next IVP Round is now open, for visits between January and December 2027. Applications are due 17 February 2026 (11:59 pm, Sydney time).

Domestic Visitor Program (DVP)

Applications for the Domestic Visitor Program are open on a rolling basis. The deadline for applications is 3–9 months before the start of the proposed visit.

Ukrainian Visitor Program (UVP)

The objective of the UVP is to provide a temporary safe haven for Ukrainian researchers in the mathematical sciences who are in distress due to the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army at the end of February 2022. The UVP supports these Ukrainian researchers to temporarily continue their research in a secure and welcoming environment at the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute in Sydney, Australia.
