Farewell afternoon tea for visitor Kostiantyn Ralchenko

On 8 June, SMRI hosted an afternoon tea to farewell Ukrainian mathematician Kostiantyn Ralchenko. Attendees included Emeritus Professor James Lawson, University of Sydney sociologist Dr Olga Boїchak, and staff and students from SMRI and the School of Mathematics and Statistics.

Kostiantyn and his family came to Australia through the support of SMRI’s Ukrainian Visitor Program for displaced mathematical scientists from Ukraine. Kostiantyn worked at SMRI and Macquarie University from November 2022 to May 2023.

Associate Professor of Mathematics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Kostiantyn works in the field of probability theory, a branch of mathematics and statistics that is essential for many processes that involve quantitative data analysis. His research interests include the study of stochastic processes, which are widely used as mathematical models of random systems.
