The University of Sydney has been recognised as a national leader in the ARC 2026 Future Fellowships, with SMRI’s own Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Dr Renjie Feng, being one of the recipients.
Dr Feng’s Future Fellowship will support his research into rare and extreme events arising in random matrices and random point processes. His work aims to develop a unified mathematical framework to understand when different random models exhibit universal statistical laws for these rare events and when these laws break down.
Dr Feng completed his PhD at Northwestern University in Illinois and joined SMRI in 2023. His research is in probability theory, with a particular focus on random matrices and random geometry.
The highly competitive ARC Future Fellowships support outstanding mid-career researchers undertaking high-impact research. Dr Feng’s work will strengthen Australia’s mathematical research capability while developing tools with potential applications across information theory, mathematical physics, statistics and artificial intelligence.
