For International Day of Mathematics 2026, the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute curated a program of family-friendly events at the Chau Chak Wing Museum as part of our annual Maths at the Museum weekend. From Saturday 14th to Sunday 15th March, the museum recorded more than 1500 visitors, many of whom joined our drop-in maths craft activities, registered for four sold-out magic shows, given by Stanford mathematician Tadashi Tokieda.
We expanded our range of craft activities, with new activities including a flexagon maze game developed by Weichun Chang, worksheets exploring flat and bendy mirrors, and new line art patterns. Continuing our projects from 2025, we levelled up the Menger sponge and have now completed around 1,600 building blocks on this 3D fractal!
