Laureate interview with Endre Szemerédi
In September 2022, SMRI’s communications coordinator Larissa Fedunik had the privilege of interviewing 2012 Abel Prize winner Endre Szemerédi at the 9th Heidelberg Laureate Forum.
In this interview, Professor Szemerédi discusses the unconventional beginnings of his career, misconceptions about discrete mathematicians, how computing changed the mathematical landscape, his reputation as a problem solver and the culmination of work leading to Szemerédi theorem (including finding the regularity lemma at the last minute).
A rare interview with the renowned combinatorialist!
