International Women in Mathematics Day event

Every year in May, International Women in Mathematics Day (IWMD) celebrates the achievements of female mathematicians in honour of mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman to be awarded the Fields Medal for Mathematics.

To celebrate IWMD 2024, SMRI hosted a fun event, including a trivia quiz with Professor Francis Su; animated shorts on Alicia Boole’s land of Polytopes and Kovalevskaya’s spinning top; and a ‘Spotlight on Women in Mathematics at The University of Sydney’ – followed by an informal gathering with pizza.
