Art Gallery of NSW: Perspectives on geometry photo gallery

On the evening of Wednesday 29 November, visitors to the Art Gallery of New South Wales heard about the intricate relationship between geometry and the world around us from the perspectives of artist Shireen Taweel and SMRI Executive Director Stephan Tillmann, Professor of geometric topology at the University of Sydney.
Moderated by podcaster and author Yumi Stynes, the conversation examined the overlaps between mathematics and art, and explored the stories that geometric forms hold within them.
This talk was presented in association with the Kandinsky exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW, which includes Desmond Lazaro’s Point and Line to Plane, an artist project commissioned by the Art Gallery which explores geometry and the hidden meaning of shapes. The exhibition is open from 4 November 2023–10 March 2024 in the South Building of the Art Gallery.
