SMRI Director Geordie Williamson awarded Australian Laureate Fellowship
We are delighted to announce that SMRI Director Geordie Williamson has been awarded an Australian Laureate Fellowship to unlock the secrets of modular representations, announced on 3 July 2023.
Geordie is a recipient of one of 17 new Australian Laureate Fellowships, funded by the Australian Research Council to conduct ground-breaking research across a broad range of areas.
Geordie’s project aims to increase our understanding of the fundamental symmetries of discrete structures, such as those present in computer science and cryptography. The research will draw on expertise in large-scale computation to improve technological decision-making in crucial sectors, from medical equipment to cybersecurity. In collaboration with AI experts in research and industry, this project will further develop emerging technologies and train Australian scientists in sophisticated mathematical theory and computational methods.
