We have just passed one year since the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute opened its doors. Thanks to the hard work of our staff, and the strength of mathematical research at the University of Sydney and across Australia, we have been privileged to host a total of 80 visiting researchers in our first year. Like similar institutes the world over, we are temporarily closed in a physical sense; however, we remain dedicated to our mission of transforming Australian research in the mathematical sciences. The current crisis has shown that mathematics is both crucial to society and adaptable to any challenge. The great work continues at home and online, and we look forward to sharing more of it with you over the coming months.
My best wishes for the health and safety of all SMRI’s friends and supporters.
